This year marks the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy and its destruction of Darwin.
The Category 4 system hit early on Christmas Day in 1974, killing seventy-one people, injuring hundreds more and leaving a trail of devastation which made it one of Australia’s most prominent and costly natural disasters.
The Australian Maritime Museum would like to honour those involved by telling the stories of anyone who was serving on the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Advance at the time, or was part of the Navy’s disaster relief operation at the time Cyclone Tracy hit.
If you or anyone you know was involved and would like to share your experiences, the Museum is keen to hear from you.
