Teacher preview evening - Shaped by the Sea and deep time Australia

Teacher events at the Australian National Maritime Museum give education professionals the chance to learn about our museum and our programs. You will be able to view our galleries, meet our curators, and talk with our education team about projects developed to support classroom practice.

Shaped by the Sea is a new permanent gallery that explores the deep time history of Australia.

Using the twin lenses of First Nations knowledge and modern European science, the gallery covers the themes of water, land and sky. Beginning deep in the past, the exhibition’s stories and objects are arranged in the space thematically, according to Australia’s natural phenomena.

This gallery will be central to our museum’s education programs in the coming years; and aligns perfectly with the recently announced Australian Curriculum topic of ‘deep time history of Australia’.

On 30 June we will host a free event where you can:

  • Hear from the gallery’s curators
  • Talk to our teacher-trained education team
  • Visit the gallery during a special preview
  • Enjoy a drink and some food with other interested educators
